Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add photos or videos to the secure vault?

Open NeatLock and go to the Vault tab. Tap Add Media and select the photos or videos you want to secure. Once moved, they will no longer appear in your main Photos library and will be protected by Face ID or Touch ID.

Face ID / Touch ID isn't working to unlock the vault. What should I do?

Make sure Face ID or Touch ID is enabled for NeatLock in iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode). If you have recently updated iOS or reset your biometrics, you may need to re-enable it. As a fallback, your device passcode can be used to unlock the vault.

Are my vault photos backed up to iCloud?

No. Vault media is stored only on your device and is intentionally excluded from iCloud Photos backup. This is by design — the vault is meant to keep media private and off cloud servers. Make sure to keep a local backup of important vault content, as it is not recoverable if the app is deleted.

What happens if I delete the app?

All vault media will be permanently deleted if you delete NeatLock. Export or save any vault photos and videos you want to keep before uninstalling the app. This action cannot be undone.

How does duplicate detection work?

NeatLock uses Apple's on-device Vision and Photos frameworks to compare your library and identify visually similar or identical photos and videos. All analysis happens entirely on your device — no images are uploaded anywhere. Review the suggested duplicates before deleting; NeatLock will show you both copies so you can confirm which to keep.

Can I recover photos I deleted with NeatLock?

Photos deleted through NeatLock are moved to your iOS Recently Deleted album (in the Photos app) where they remain for 30 days before being permanently removed. You can recover them from there within that window. After 30 days, deletion is permanent. We strongly recommend maintaining an iCloud Photos or local backup before using any cleaning feature.

Why does NeatLock need access to my photo library?

Photo library access is required for the duplicate finder, blurry photo detector, screenshot cleaner, and the ability to move media into the secure vault. You can control the level of access — full library or selected photos only — in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → NeatLock. Revoking access disables library cleaning features but does not affect photos already in the vault.

How do I cancel my NeatLock subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → NeatLock → Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.

How do I restore my subscription after reinstalling?

Open NeatLock, navigate to the subscription screen, and tap Restore Purchases. Your subscription will be restored as long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the NeatLock purchase, and select "Request a Refund."
